Understanding the CARB TRU Regulation Deadline
If you ordered compliance technology for your model year 2012 transport refrigeration unit (TRU) engine by the purchase order deadline, but your delivery or installation will be delayed, compliance by December 31, 2019 is still possible!
By filing a compliance extension application, with the required supporting documentation, with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) by December 31, 2019, you can still meet the deadline.
The CARB TRU regulation’s purchase order deadlines are:
- For refrigeratior trailers, TRU unit replacements and TRU engine replacements: The purchase order deadline is August 31, 2019 - four months ahead of the compliance deadline.
- For verified diesel particulate filter retrofits: The purchase order deadline is October 31, 2019 - two months ahead of the compliance deadline.
For model year 2012 engines/units, owners must make a good-faith effort to comply by the end of 2019. If in-use compliance cannot be achieved by December 31, 2019, due to delays in delivery or installation, owners may apply for a compliance extension. The compliance extension application, with attached supporting documentation showing the purchase order date was on or before the applicable deadlines, must be received at CARB by December 31, 2019.
